The Colour Chameleon

Snowprint is homozygous for LP, which means every foal he sires will inherit one copy of LP from him. He will produce an Appaloosa foal in every foal he sires, irrespective of the breed of the dam. He has produced a range of colour to date from solid with characteristics to loud leopard colts. It should also be noted that the leopard colts came from dams who are also the daughters of leopard sires, so they too had an influence. Snowprint is likely to sire leopards from Thoroughbred, Quarter Horse and Arabian mares. The reason for this is that these breeds will not be carrying the Appaloosa gene and Appaloosa patterns, to alter, modify or suppress Snowprints colour producing ability. Although Snowprint hasn't sired as many foals as his sire, he has never-the-less produced some outstanding foals. Like his sire Dusti Breeze, he passes on his good bone, muscling and kind mind. Snowprints pedigree boasts some of the very best foundation appaloosas, like Chico's Snowcap, Storm Cloud F, Money Creek Rockledge, Navajo Briotches, Whistle Britches, Freels Chico, Red Eagle, The Ghostwind Stallions and Peppers Shamrock.

Chico"s Snowcap - ApHC #F3254

Snowcap Blanket,(White over loin/hips) National Champion Producer, Sire of Medallion Winner, Canadian Supreme Champion, Foundation sire.

Reflection Snowprint - ApHANZ #868

"Snowprint" was a black blanketed mare bred by Reflection Stud in Tamworth, Manilla Australia. She was born 27th November 1981, a daughter of SUPREME CHAMPION "Baldwins Whistler", who was also SIRE OF CHAMPIONS “Handprints Whistler” and “Sequoia Whistlers Image”. Baldwins Whistler, AAA #22, was a very beautiful black spotted blanket sire, who stood at Broken Arrow Stud, Holgate, N.S.W. Australia. He was the only son of "Storm Cloud F" standing in Australia.

The mare "Whistlers Handprint", was out of the striking mare “Handprint” who was a bay will a full heavily spotted blanket. "Handprint" was Hi-Point Appaloosa Horse of Australia in 1974. Her first foal was "Whistlers Handprint" (filly). Snowprints half brother “Handprints Whistler” (Liver chestnut spotted blanket stallion) won his first blue ribbon at just 6 weeks of age, his first CHAMPIONSHIP at 11 months, his first SUPREME EXHIBIT at 13 months, a CHAMPION or SUPREME RIBBON on 11 different occasions, before 24 months of age. He was started under saddle in March 1979 and trained by Dick Fuchs. Snowprints other half brother "Whistlers Painter" who was a full brother to "Handprints Whistler" (15.1H) was a black fewspot leopard colt born 1978, (half brother to "Reflection Snowprint") who took his first blue ribbon at the tender age of 5 months. It's not surprising that Handprint was a highly coloured mare when you see who her sire was. Her sire "Nevada Devil Dancer" was a loudly and heavily spotted bay leopard stallion. He in turn was sired by the sought after and heavily spotted black leopard sire "Money Creek Rockledge". Money Creek Rockledge sired many "Indian Shufflers".

Money Creek Rockledge - ApHC #4092

Money Creek Rockledge was by the well known Foundation sire "Pepper's Shamrock" who in turn was also a leopard stallion. Pepper's Shamrock was an identified Indian Shuffler. He passed this trait on to his son Money Creeks Rockledge, who also sired some Indian Shufflers himself. Rockledge was a handsome horse who was a well sort after sire. He passed his good looks and kind mind on to many of his progeny. Money Creek Rockledge became a MEDALLION SIRE.

Storm Cloud F - ApHC #F1644

Storm Cloud F was bred by Grace Forry of Goldendale, Washington, USA. He was by Red Eagle #F209, out of Maize #1643. He was born 9th May 1954, and is described as a blue roan with a black spotted blanket. He was a 1957 NATIONAL CHAMPION 3 Year Old Stallion, 1954 NATIONAL CHAMPION WEANLING Stallion, NATIONAL CHAMPION SIRE, featured in Western Livestock Journal Horse of the Month, Multiple GET OF SIRE WINNER, Sire of HALTER and PERFORMANCE WINNERS including Simcoes Kusshi, NATIONAL CHAMPION Mens Costume Horse; Simcoes Koosah, NATIONAL CHAMPION WEANLING Stallion; Pa-Ho-Co Stormeago, NATIONAL CHAMPION Matched Pairs.

Red Eagle - ApHC #209

RED EAGLE was bred by the ApHC founder, Claude Thompson in Oregon, and co-owned by Thomas Clay. 1946-1971. He was by the well balanced Arabian Sire "Ferras", AHRA#922, (who was line-bred four times back to the famous sire Mesaoud), and out of the Appaloosa mare Painters Marvel #F47. Marvel was by the Foundation sire "Painter 3" out of Snowflake. Claude Thompson was an astute breeder. He used line-breeding to perfect the conformation of his horses in his Appaloosas. At age five years "Red Eagle" was GRAND CHAMPION Halter Stallion at the National Show and stood as RESERVE NATIONAL STALLION six years later in 1957. That year he with one son and two grandsons took every stallion Halter win, at the National Show, bar one, which was taken by Edie's Pride, (a son of Bear Paw). This showed the consistency of Red Eagle quality. The answer lies partly in the careful choice of mares to which he was mated. The Red Eagle son "American Eagle" out of Dutchess #F1110, is a prime example. This mare was by Old Tony and helped make American Eagle a NATIONAL HALTER CHAMPION in 1953 as a two year old. Many of Red Eagles progeny took titles at Shows such as:- Mr Blue (son) WEANLING HALTER WINNER 1958 National, American Marvel RESERVE CHAMPION HALTER 1956 & 57 National Shows. The second son Red Eagles Peacock #F1476 became NATIONAL HALTER CHAMPION in 1956 at age 3yrs. So many of Red Eagles progeny and grand-get walked away with many titles and trophies, too numerous to mention. Such was his success that in 1988 RED EAGLE was inducted into the ApHC HALL OF FAME.
